The cadets from George Heriot’s School...

Heriots BandThe cadets from George Heriot’s School will be attending the Greyfriars Bobby Memorial Day ceremony on January 14th.

The One o’ Clock Gun and the story of the world famous dog are part of the school's history as Bobby is recorded as having been banned from the school grounds by the gardener.

During Bobby’s lifetime, before the school closed on Christmas Eve, in addition to receiving a small, round, seed cake topped with red sugar and decorated with the initials G.H.H. (George Heriot’s Hospital) the pupils received a square of shortbread and two oranges.

The pupils returned to school on January 2nd.

The illustration shows the school’s brass band which was formed in 1861 playing on the terrace.
