Lord Provost 1865-1869

William ChambersWilliam Chambers was born in Peebles, Scotland in 1800. He and his bother Robert founded W. & R. Chambers the printing and publishing company.

During his period as Lord Provost of Edinburgh (1865-1869) he concentrated on modernising the city by demolishing the Old Town's slums and building new streets and houses.
