Colonel Huthwaite...

William EwinsColonel Huthwaite the commanding officer of 105th Regt. R.A. (V.) will present the winners of the Greyfriars Bobby Childrens Painting Competition with their prizes at Edinburgh Castle on 4th October. 105th Regiment is responsible for maintaining and supplying gunners for the One o’ Clock Gun.

The pupils of Brae High School, Shetland came first, second and third in Section 4.

Children’s book illustrator John Fardell who judged the competition was highly impressed with the hundreds of entries which were sent in.

This week’s photograph shows Willam Ewins’ entry. Three year old William who came first in the Infant’s section will be at the Castle accompanied by his parents and grandfather to collect his prize.

The competition held to mark World Animal Day on 4th October has proved so successful that the One o' Clock Gun & Time Ball Association committee has decided to hold a painting competition next year.

The committee would like to thank Cleo Jones, Manager of Information & Learning Resources, Edinburgh City Council for her invaluable help in organising the competition.
