Donald CrispWednesday 25th May marks the anniversary of the death of Donald Crisp.

The hard working actor played Auld Jock the shepherd in ‘Challenge to Lassie’ and later played James Brown the gardener of Greyfriars Kirk in Disney’s ‘Greyfriars Bobby’.

The name Auld Jock was a fictional character created by Eleanor Atkinson for her novel 'Greyfriars Bobby' he is immoratalised on a stone erected to commemorate John Gray (Auld Jock) by Mr and Mrs Howell Reed of Boston, American Lovers of Bobby in Greyfriars burial ground close to Bobby's grave.

The new paving stones are now in place around Bobby’s drinking fountain. The area has been extended so that visitors can photograph the world’s most famous dog in safety without being knocked down by the traffic heading along George IV Bridge.
