Doors Open Day at the City Observatory on the Calton Hill, Edinburgh was a great success. After Colonel Huthwaite the commanding officer of 105th Regt RA (V) was welcomed by David Small, President of the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh, David Henderson of the One o’ Clock Gun & Time Ball Association presented the Colonel with a handcrafted clock to mark the occasion. Each group of visitors was given an entertaining run down by Bruce Vickery on the history of the observatory, while clockmaker Lucas Marijnissen explained the clocks connected to the system. This week’s photograph shows Colonel Huthwaite being presented with the 150th One o’ Clock Gun anniversary clock specially made by the craftsmen at the Grassmarket Mission. |
