October marks the
anniversary of the death of Fiddy, the black and tan spaniel who
belonged to publisher William Chambers and his wife Harriet.
When Fiddy died in 1858, the same year that Bobby was said to have appeared in Greyfriars graveyard, a plaster cast of the spaniel was set up on a wall in the museum of the Chambers Institution in Peebles.
The engraving shows the publisher’s summer residence Glenormiston
overlooking the Tweed where Fiddy is buried.
