In addition to dozens of interesting paintings featuring views of the city and the Port of Leith, John Kay’s ‘Parliament Square’ group is on display. John who specialised in drawing the city’s colourful characters is buried in Greyfriars cemetery. The illustration shows the artist in his Caricature Ware Room which was situated across the High Street from the Tron Kirk not far from where the artist and his wife lived. Greyfriars Bobby fans will also be interested in the painting of Provost Coutts the great grandfather of Baroness Burdett-Coutts who paid for the world famous dog’s drinking fountain. The exhibition which runs until 10th July is free. It’s not well advertised so don’t miss it.
