Lapo who lives in Italy...

This week’s photograph show Lapo who lives with Maria Rosa Furbelli.

When Maria who lives in Italy was in the capital recently, she paid a visit to Colour Sergeant Scott’s grave in Piershill Cemetery and laid a flower on his memorial stone as a tribute to the soldier who provided meals for the little dog.

The internationally famous terrier is now featured in the BBC’s virtual museum ‘A History of the World’.

The plaster model from the Museum of Edinburgh may have been used to produce the mould for Bobby’s statue standing on his drinking fountain at the junction of Candlemaker Row and  George IV Bridge.

Commissioned by Baroness Burdett-Coutts, the statue was not intended as a memorial as Bobby was still  alive when permission was requested from the city authorities to erect it.

The ceremony to mark the death of Bum the San Diego dog takes place on Wednesday 10th November. A similar ceremony will take place at the same time at Bum’s statue in San Diego. The San Diego dog sits guarding the gates of West Princes Street Gardens. The ceremony will start at one o’ clock after Shannon the Cannon fires the One o’ Clock Gun.
