The U.K.’s first local studies centre...
When the Library opened in 1890, John Traill the owner of Traill’s Temperance Coffee House was probably one of the first to apply for a reader’s ticket. Staffed by customer-friendly, professional librarians, the Edinburgh Room contains a comprehensive collection of published material on the history of Scotland’s capital. A treasure house of historical data, the Edinburgh Room also contains books and information on Greyfriars Bobby. The collection includes over 100,000 books, maps, prints, photographs, slides, old parish registers, census returns and newspaper cuttings relating to the history, topography and social life of the city. Pop in for a browse when you visit Greyfriars Bobby’s drinking fountain. The Library’s just a stone's throw away from the world famous dog's statue. edinburgh.room@edinburgh.gov.uk |
