Winter Wonderland Ice Rink...
In 1868, the year after Greyfriars Bobby was licenced thanks to Lord Provost Chambers, Edinburgh was hit by a hurricane. A section of Heriot’s School grounds was flooded, turning the ice covered asphalt into a skating rink. The boys also built a snow house which was used to punish clypes. Informers found guilty of telling tales to the teachers were frog-marched into the snow-built roofless prison and pelted with snowballs.
